Team Silva Martial Arts Academy

Professor Sergio Silva started practcing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu back in 1992 when he was a brown belt in Judo. The passion of Martial Arts started for the first time when professor Silva was almost 4 years of age and he went to a judo practice in
his uncle's academy in Curitiba,Parana-Brazil.

Dojo Mokayko was lead by professor Si;va's uncle Edgar Barreto.Professor Barreto was a judo teacher and fighter who believed so much in the art of Judo.

Sergio Silva in the young son of all 2 brothers that he has.His older brother Julio Cesar Linhares e Silva was the most dedicated junior judo athlete back then.Julio used to love to learn the art of fighting.

Combatfitness

Not just Judo but Kung fu and street fighting it was a necessity for Julio that used to ride the bus in the city and a lot of times encountering himself in danger situations.

On saturdays,Julio who was very young and has huge responsibilities. He had the key of the dojo and used to invite his friends from different Martial Arts to come share and learn together the mixing of Martial Arts(MMA).

Back then professor Silva was just a fanatic for learning new things.Soccer was into his passion but before getting deep in soccer professor Silva learned few other Martial Arts.Capoeira,Kung Fu,Karate,Judo and even Sumo was some of the things that professor Silva learned in the early ages.

He knew that consistency was something important not only in Judo and Martial Arts in general but overall you must know how important is the consistency in anything you put your life into it.

Team Silva Jiu Jitsu Beginner

In 1993 Sergio older brother Julio decided to give up his pre school Judo teaching and follow his dreams to be an architect.Given Sergio the opportunity to teach Judo to pre School kids in Brazil.

As a brown belt in Judo Sergio Silva thought it was the chance of his life time.Teach the art of Judo as a job it would change Sergio's life once and for all.
Sergio used to have a very demanding Soccer schedule where practice was almost everyday. In the day that he wasn't practicing Soccer he was practicing Judo and martial arts with his brother.
One of the most beautiful teaching of Martial Arts on his life was the art of persistence in learning:
"When you think a move is hard to learn it means you did not tried enough times to learn that technique..."

Team Silva BJJ Review

Danilo

"I came from Brazil to spend some time in California training jiu-jitsu. Since I arrived I'm training with Sergio and even knowing several academies from Brazil (birthplace of jiu-jitsu) I can say the TeamSilva BJJ is the one of the best places I already trained. The friendly atmosphere, the solids techniques taught and diversities in which you can test yourself, make it the perfect place for lovers of  martial arts, beginners or competitors. Tatame always very clean and perfect environment for practicing the martial art."

Luis Soltero

I could go on and on telling all the great things about this Academy so I will try to keep it short.  I have been a member, along with my two sons and my daughter, for over 4 years. At first I though this would be an awesome activity for my kids but when I started watching the training I thought "I can do this" the truth is I was nervous. I was still recovering from low back surgery so I wasn't sure this was a sport I would last more than a week.  Well I am still here and continue training and love the training!  When I met Sergio he made me feel welcome and suggested for me to give it a try, so I did.  Sergio is a world champion who has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for decades and he cares for his students making sure they learn everything 100%. Now with the new location they have more room, more classes, and more options such as Yoga and Capoeira.  Often times Sergio also offers kids programs for summer activities and Parents Night out!!!  Sergio isn't just a teacher he is an amazing professor and a great friend he opens the door and makes you feel part of his family.  Everyone who trains there learns to be humble and share their knowledge, with the ones who begin to learn I find myself doing that thanks to the foundation Sergio built in me and every person.  It is true what other people mentioned this place becomes your second family.

BJJ has help me in many ways, to get strong and protect my body, to be humble, to learn a better way to be a better person with more confidence and respect for others. This type of martial arts is great for kids too and this Academy offers the people and the room to make kids feel comfortable and teaches them to gain confidence, learn respect and discipline.

Be sure to check their website teamsilvabjj.com they have additional locations in other cities.  I have trained at one of the other locations and the people are humble and welcoming as well and great instructors who teach at either location different days of the week.

Thank you professor and friend Sergio Silva and thank you for providing a family oriented environment.  I am happy to be part of this family!
